Day 4: Boat Ride, Capernaum … to Jerusalem!

by Steve Ray on February 21, 2011

Off to a good start! Today we will have TWO videos since there was just too much to fit into 10 minutes (YouTube limits). So, below is Part I and soon I will upload the afternoon and trip to Jerusalem in Part II.

We spent the morning around the Sea of Galilee, on a boat ride, Mass at Capernaun and my talk “Defending the Eucharist”, the Multiplication of Loaves, the Primacy of Peter on the shore of Galilee and renewal of Baptismal vows in the Jordan River.

After that we drove through the Jordan Valley to Jerusalem for dinner, reflections and bed. We stopped for ice cream along the way. I gave my conversion story on both buses and the priests gave their vocation stories.

Tomorrow the whole day in Bethlehem ending with a Palestinian meal of stuffed lamb, good wine and dancing.

Hi Ann, Diane, Father Tom (St. Andrew group),

I’ve been on this pilgrimage with you via the internet and loving every minute of it. You seem to be doing a lot of eating and laughing — enjoying all the sites as well. You all look and sound great. Wish I was there.
God Bless and keep all of you safe. Love, Pat Tucker

  • Hi Pilgrims Marilynn and Jerry Spencer,

We are watching your journey by video. Saw Marilynn at the airport arrival. Saw you both renewing your wedding vows and at dinner in Tiberias. Looks like you are eating well. All good news from here. At week 7 everyone is fine. Kelly and Jim got the house with the Marilynn Spencer kitchen. You missed 8 inches of snow on Sunday. Have fun in Jerusalem. We love you.

To think that in a little more than four days, you have walked in footsteps that took Jesus his lifetime to traverse.

We are sharing, in amazement, the sights and sounds of such sacred sites- only if we could have shared in the delicious food that you have had the chance to eat!!

You continue to be in our thoughts and prayers!

    Love, Ellen, Paul and Will

We’ve enjoyed experiencing the journey with you and the opportunity to share in the visual imagery – especially timely as last week’s gospel was taken from the Sermon on the Mount – how wonderful to have the picture of the sea of Galilee in my mind as the priest read the passage.

From the video it is difficult to tell whether the wonderful dining experiences or Fr. Tom’s stories (jokes?) will be more memorable. Can’t wait to hear about your spiritual journey as well. Enjoy the rest of your week.

    P.S.

Nicholas, I found you… I guess it helps putting on my glasses (just joking). You know what they say as you get older the first thing you loose is your hearing, second your eyesight and third your MIND.
Watching the You Tube of this amazing trip you are on, is breath taking. I saw you briefly on the bus looking out the window, I can only imagine what you are thinking. Perhaps, someday you will want to go back to Israel and take me with you. To all the folks from Michigan, you missed a snowstorm! Lucky YOU!!!!!

Take care and God Bless You All.

    Love,
Mom, Kerri, Max and Kaiser (the last 2 are dogs)
